How to use this BTU calculator

What is BTU?

British Thermal Units (BTU) measure an aircon's cooling power. A room that's too small a BTU rating will never reach your target temperature; too large wastes electricity and causes short-cycling.

Why Singapore needs more BTU

Our tropical climate adds a 25% load on top of standard calculations. West-facing HDB rooms in the afternoon can spike ambient temperatures by 5–8°C, requiring further adjustment.

Dirty coils reduce effective BTU

A clogged evaporator coil can reduce cooling output by 20–30%. If your correctly-sized AC still isn't keeping the room cool, a chemical wash restores full capacity — often without needing a larger unit.

Common Singapore aircon sizes

HDB bedroom (10–14 m²): 9,000–12,000 BTU (1 ton). HDB living room (20–28 m²): 18,000–24,000 BTU (1.5–2 ton). Condo master bedroom (16–20 m²): 12,000–18,000 BTU.

Your aircon not cooling even with the right size?

A chemical wash removes the mould and sludge blocking your evaporator coil. Fixed from S$80.
