When You Should Book a New Installation
Standard servicing keeps a clean, healthy aircon running. A chemical wash clears coil biofilm. Installation is what you book when there is no working unit to keep alive, when the existing unit is past the point that any wash can save, or when you are adding an indoor unit to a system that did not have one before.
Five hard indicators that point to install territory rather than repair:
- A unit older than 10 to 12 years that is already on its second or third major fault. Compressor fatigue, refrigerant leaks at the coil, and PCB age all stack up. Replacement usually beats another repair on cost over the next two years.
- A new BTO, condo, or landed property with no aircon yet. Wall pipe paths and ledge positions need to be planned alongside renovation, so the survey should happen during the renovation window, not after.
- An existing system that needs a second or third indoor unit. Multi-split outdoor units have a fixed indoor capacity. We check whether your current outdoor can take the extra load before quoting the indoor install.
- A commercial space (office, F&B, retail) being fitted out for opening. Cassette, ducted, and ceiling-concealed installs need to work around the ceiling design and opening hours, often out-of-hours scheduling.
- A poor third-party install that cools weakly from day one. An under-vacuum line set or a sloppy R32 charge will not be fixed by another wash. The survey identifies the actual fault and quotes either a re-commission or a clean replacement.

How a Survey-Led Install Differs From a Default Quote
A default-led aircon installation starts by quoting from a phone description. The number assumes a short pipe run, easy ledge access, and a standard electrical run, which often turns out to be wrong on install day. The customer then faces top-up charges for extra copper, longer wiring, or a heavier bracket, with no time to compare alternatives.
A survey-led install flips the order. We measure the pipe run from the indoor wall position to the outdoor ledge, check the consumer-unit capacity, review the bracket and drainage path, and only then put a fixed quote in writing. If the survey shows the existing electrical run cannot carry the new load, we say so up front and quote the upgrade rather than discovering it half-way through the job. The fixed quote becomes the price you pay, with no top-up surprises on the day.

The licence documentation is kept on file and the R32 charge is recorded on every install receipt for warranty and future service records.
R410 is the mid-generation refrigerant used on many 2010s installs. New units sold in this refrigerant class are now uncommon, but reinstall and replacement work on existing R410 systems remains routine. R22 is the legacy refrigerant for installs from before the late 2000s. Recovery and disposal of residual R22 from an old unit during replacement is handled under NEA-compliant procedures, with the new unit running R32.
Multi-split installations need careful capacity matching between the outdoor condenser and the combined indoor unit load. We check the manufacturer specification for your existing outdoor unit before quoting any additional indoor install, and we say so if a second outdoor unit is the cleaner long-term answer.
